Water Resource Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu on Monday announced that the construction of the Earth-Cum-Rock Fill (ECRF) dam of the Polavaram irrigation project across river Godavari commenced parallel to the construction of the new diaphragm wall as recommended by the Central Water Commission (CWC).
Speaking to newsmen at a press conference here on Monday, Mr. Rama Naidu has claimed that the construction of the diaphragm wall would be completed by the year-end.
“The diaphragm wall works worth ₹990 crore are in full swing while ₹1,200 crore has been allocated to complete the Left Main Canal (LMC) of the Polavaram irrigation project to provide irrigation and drinking water for the North Andhra region, including Visakhapatnam city, for industrial needs”, said Mr. Rama Naidu.
On completion of the Polavaram project, Mr. Rama Naidu has said, “Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has appealed to the engineers to complete the construction by June 2027, marking the Godavari Pushkarams. Otherwise, the project is set to be commissioned by the end of 2027”.
