The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and the Sakhi Women’s Resource Centre will organise a consultation on ‘Implementation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012,’ on Tuesday.

Shibu M.P., Additional District and Sessions Judge (POCSO), Thiruvananthapuram, will inaugurate the consultation at Anna Chandy Hall, DLSA, Vanchiyur, at 9.30 a.m.

In the first session, S. Sreeraj, Additional District Judge, will give a brief outline on the POCSO Act and Rules.

S. Shamnad, Senior Civil udge who is also the DLSA secretary; Ajeetha Beegum, DIG and nodal officer, POCSO Act; and Bibin Gopal, Deputy Director of Health Services; will speak on gaps in investigation and issues related to medical examination of children and improving mechanisms.

K.T. Nisar Ahmed, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Thalassery, and Rekha R., Special Judge, Fast Track Special Court, Thiruvananthapuram, will talk on challenges involved in ensuring child-friendly trial, infrastructure, legal aid and prosecutor’s role.

The last session on challenges in rehabilitation/victim compensation will be moderated by Additional District and Sessions Judge Aaj Sudarsan, district child welfare committee chairperson Shaniba Beegum, and Nirbhaya coordinator Sreela Menon. An open forum will follow.

Shobha Koshy, former chairperson of the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights; S. Sreejith, Additional Director General of Police, Padma Prasad, president, Kerala Government Medical Officers’ Association; and J. Sandhya, secretary, Sakhi, will speak.
