A couple met with a tragic end on the eve of New Year after their motorcycle was knocked down by a speeding car in Dharmapuri town of Jagtial district.
The deceased were identified as K. Chandraiah, 55, and his wife Bhagyamma, 50, from Ramaiahpally village in Dharmapuri mandal.
The incident occurred when the couple was returning home on their motorcycle after offering special prayers and attending New Year’s Eve services at a local church, sources said.
The couple fell off the bike and suffered grievous injuries after the car hit their two-wheeler from behind. While Chandraiah died on the spot, a critically-injured Bhagyamma died while being shifted to a hospital.
Dharmapuri police registered a case and launched a detailed probe to trace the driver of the car.
Pedestrian killed
In a separate incident, a pedestrian was fatally knocked down by a speeding bike at Bheemaram village in Medipalli mandal of Jagtial district late on Tuesday night.
The victim was identified as Bhoomarajam, 48. A local youth, who was riding the bike, suffered minor injuries.
