Curtain will go up on Calicut University Interzone Arts Festival at Majlis Arts and Science College, Puramannur, near Valanchery on Saturday (February 22). Colleges from Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts are competing in the inter-zonal festival.

The ‘Kalavara Nirakkal’ ceremony as part of the festival took place at Valanchery on Friday. The festival, organised by the university student union named ‘Aikya’ from February 22 to 26, has been named ‘Kalaikya.’

Valanchery municipal chairperson Ashraf Ambalathingal inaugurated the Kalavara Nirakkal function by accepting a basketful of organic vegetables from writer Munawwar Valanchery.

The festival organisers and students are procuring grocery and vegetables needed for the five-day celebrations from residents and organisations in Valanchery and neighbouring areas.

Arrangements for food for contestants, officials and volunteers are being prepared at the college. The dining hall can feed 500 people at a time, according to the organisers.

Organising committee officials C.P. Hamza, Saleem Kuruvambalam, P.K. Hamza, Vinu Pullanur, and Mohammedali Neettukattil spoke.
