Directions issued for disciplinary action against delay in completion of Mysuru export hub

The hopes of industrialists in Mysuru for completion of the work on the long-delayed the Mysuru Export Centre have been revived with Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh issuing directions to the Principal Secretary, Department of Industries and Commerce to act against the persons responsible for the delay and take necessary action for resumption of the pending work.

A delegation of Mysuru Industries Association led by its General Secretary Suresh Kumar Jain met the Chief Secretary at the office of Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru during her visit to the city on March 24 and submitted a memorandum seeking immediate action to resume work on the long-delayed project.

The foundation stone for the Mysuru Export Centre conceived to boost exports from not only Mysuru, but also neighbouring Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Hassan and Chikkamagaluru districts was laid more than ten years ago in 2014. However, work on the ₹8 crore project with a financial assistance of ₹3 crore from the Centre, could begin only in 2019.

Though the work was scheduled to be completed in 2020, the deadline was extended to 2021.

Pointing to the work remaining still incomplete, Ms. Rajneesh said it was regrettable that even after five years since the commencement of the project, the work remained incomplete.

The work was cancelled in 2024 and a new tender process was initiated. However, the previous contractor had obtained a stay order from the court, leaving the building in a dilapidated condition.

Referring to Mysuru Industries Association’s request to her for immediate action to resume work, Ms. Rajneesh has issued directions to the Principal Secretary of Department of Commerce and Industries while marking a copy to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) to take disciplinary action against those responsible for the five-year delay in the completion of the project.

She has also sought that necessary action be taken to vacate the court’s stay order and resume work as per the request of the Mysuru Industries Association.

The Mysuru Export Centre, apart from boosting exports from the region, is also expected to organise training programmes and seminars, besides exhibitions and B2B meetings for the benefit of export-oriented industries in the region.
