In the wake of the death of two students due to food poisoning in a hostel of a private school in Mandya district recently, the Commissioner of Public Instruction has ordered all Deputy Directors of Public Instruction (DDPIs) to inspect and submit a report on unauthorised hostels and tutorials being run by private schools in their limits.

“In some districts, it has been observed that some private school managements are illegally running hostels and tutorials on school premises after obtaining permission to run schools. Precautions should be taken to ensure the safety of students so that no mishap occurs in such unauthorized hostels/tutorials. Immediately check the unauthorised hostels and tutorials after obtaining permission to run schools and submit a report with the necessary documents,” said K.V. Trilok Chandra, Commissioner, in the order.

Further, he stated that necessary action should be taken against the school management. “If they fail to do so, the concerned Block Education Officers (BEOs) and DDPIs will be held directly responsible and action will be taken as per the rules if any mishap occurs in the unauthorised hostels or tutorials,” he warned.

Recently, two students from Meghalaya died after consuming food in the hostel, and more than 40 students fell ill,at a private school in T. Kagepura village of Malavalli taluk, Mandya district.
