Yet another temple pond in a famous hill shrine is all set to get a major facelift. an initiative to preserve and protect temples — ‘Mana Ooru Mana Gudi Mana Badhyata’ (Our Village, Our Temple, Our Responsibility) — has come forward to clean the Enugu Cheruvu (Elephant tank) in the Srisailam temple town.
The Sri Bhramarambha Mallikarjuna Swamy Devasthanam has asked the organisation to clean up the temple pond. The organisation has agreed to clean the temple tank as well as the entire temple town. The cleanliness drive will be taken up on January 18 and 19, a day after the conclusion of the ongoing Sankranti Brahmotsavams.
Indian National Trust for Arts Culture and Heritage (INTACH) Nandyal convenor and Mana Ooru Mana Gudi Mana Badhyata member M. V. Shivkumar Reddy said they have decided to take up the two-day drive covering the temple premises, Shikharam, Ghanta Matam, Enugu Cheruvu, and other places in the temple town. “This will be an extensive drive and on the second day, the focus would be on the Elephant Pond,” he said.
According to Mr. Shivkumar Reddy, the tank situation adjacent to the prasadam counter behind the Bhramarambha temple is in a bad shape. “Garbage is strewn in the tank and it is littered with all kinds of waste. It needs immediate attention,” he said.
The organisation is expecting nearly 300 volunteers to take part in the drive. The organisation so far has take up similar cleanliness drive, preserving of step wells and other activities at more than 120 temples, including famous shrines like Kanchi in Tamil Nadu and Abhobilam in Nandyal district.
