Officials showcase firefighting equipment as they kick-off the Fire Service Week in Telangana on April 14, 2025

The Telangana Fire, Disaster Response, Emergency and Civil Defence Department marked the beginning of fire service week with a commemoration parade at the State Fire Service and Civil Defence Training Institute in Vattinagulapally, Gachibowli. Observed annually from April 14 to 20 across India, the week aims to raise public awareness about fire prevention.
This year’s theme is, ‘Unite to Ignite, a Fire Safe India,’ that emphasises on the importance of community involvement, education, and preparedness along with innovations in fire safety.
Fire Service Week also honours the 66 firefighters who lost their lives in the 1944 explosion aboard the Royal Navy ship S.S. Fort Stikine in Mumbai’s Victoria Dock on April 14.
Director General Y. Nagi Reddy led the parade and paid homage to the fallen firefighters along with other senior officials. To promote public awareness, fire safety posters, stickers and pamphlets were released.
Throughout the week, a series of events are scheduled across Telangana, including fire drills in hospitals, industries, malls, residential colonies, and LPG storage units. Fire safety workshops, blood donation camps, and community engagement activities will also be held.
The department has urged citizens to adopt preventive measures and call 101 in case of emergencies. The week will conclude on April 20, with a closing ceremony and prizes will be distributed for essay and drawing competitions.
