The Telangana High Court declined to pass any order in a writ petition filed seeking reduction in quota for promotion to secondary grade teachers as school assistants.
Presently, the State government had fixed 33.33% quota of school assistant posts through direct recruitment and the remaining 66.66% through transfers and promotion. The 20 petitioners are unemployed and completed their B.Ed. They wanted the government to enhance the percentage of recruitment for school assistant posts to 80% or more.
A Bench of Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Narsing Rao Nandikonda, which heard the matter, observed that the fixation of percentage for school assistant posts through direct recruitment is “wholly a policy decision of the State government”. The petitioners can approach the government to ventilate their grievance either individually or in their representative capacity, the Bench said in the order while disposing the writ petition.
