IHRD international conference on AI gets under way

Higher Education Minister R. Bindu releases the conference proceedings at the launch of the International Conclave on Artificial Intelligence organised by the Institute of Human Resources Development in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday.

The International Conclave on Artificial Intelligence (AI), organised by the Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD), got under way here on Sunday.

Higher Education Minister R. Bindu, who inaugurated the conclave, highlighted the importance of AI in modern society, while cautioning against turning the technology the “master of masters.”

Presiding over the inaugural session, V.K. Prasanth, MLA, emphasised the need for discussions on the benefits and risks of AI, especially in an era where it has become challenging to differentiate truth from fiction.

IHRD director V.A. Arunkumar and conclave convener R.V. Rajesh also spoke.

Technical session

A technical session that followed featured presentations by prominent experts, including Kannan M. Moudgalya of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, K.V.S. Hari of Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and Aldrin Jenson of Athena Intelligence, New York, who delved into the applications and critical considerations of AI.

Discussions continued with insights from Prahlad Vadakkepatt (National University of Singapore), David Natarajan (University Technology Malaysia), and Arun Surendran (Trinity College of Engineering), who shared their research and experiences in AI.

A special public session titled ‘AI and the Judicial System’ was also held, in which Kerala High Court judge V.G. Arun delivered the keynote address. Law Secretary K.G. Sanal Kumar and Additional District and Sessions Judge Prasun Mohan stressed the importance of closely examining AI’s potential harms.

The conclave will run until December 10, with further technical sessions, exhibitions, and cultural performances scheduled. The event marks the second edition of IHRD’s International Conclave on Generative AI and the Future of Education.
