The elephant with the injury to its forehead which was spotted again at the Vettilappara area.
An injured elephant, recently treated by a specialised veterinary team at Athirappilly, continues to struggle with an infected wound. For the past two days, the elephant has been spotted in the Vettilappara area. Local public revealed that the wound on its forehead hasn’t healed and is still causing distress to the animal. To ward off flies, the elephant has been spraying mud on the painful spot. While it’s still eating, it appears weak and exhausted.
The situation is being closely monitored by the Forest department, led by Vazhachal DFO R. Lakshmi. However, local opinions are divided over whether further treatment should be provided to the elephant or not.
The elephant, believed to be around 35 years old, was first tranquilized on January 24 after a three-day effort by a dedicated team of 50 experts. Once sedated, the veterinary team cleaned the wound, removed pus, and initiated necessary medication, including antibiotics. It’s suspected that the injury might have occurred during a clash with another elephant.
