JAC formed in UoH against the auction

Spread the News

University of Hyderabad’s students, teachers, non-teaching staff and workers have come together to forge a Joint Action Committee with the purpose of stopping the proposed auction of 400 acres of land at Kancha Gachibowli, adjacent to the university.

A statement bearing signatures from the representatives of UoH Students’ Union, UoH Teachers’ Association, Workers’ Union, and UoH Non-teaching Employees’ Association, on Saturday, announced the formation of JAC, and strongly demanded stoppage of all auction procedures, besides mutation of the land back to the UoH.

The JAC has been formed in the aftermath of a press release from unauthenticated sources justifying the auction, post a protest staged by the UoH Students’ Union on March 13.

The statement also urged the university administration to take a definitive stand on the issue. The JAC will pursue legal avenues to challenge the auction, and will play a pivotal role in representing both the grassroots movement and broader political efforts against the measure, it said.

Terming the auction an ‘encroachment’, the statement said the university community remained resolute in its stance against it, and will continue to mobilise efforts to safeguard the institution’s ecological and academic integrity.
