The Faculty of Engineering and Technology (Exclusively for Women) at Sharnbasva University, formerly known as Godutai Engineering College for Women, received the Mrs. Rehatun Nesai Ali Memorial ISTE National Award for Best Women’s Engineering College in India.

The award, instituted by the Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), the apex body in engineering education, was presented by T.G. Sitharam, chairman, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), to Lakshmi Patil Maka, Dean, Sharnbasva University, at the 54th ISTE National Annual Faculty Convention held at Lamrin Tech Skill University at Ropar in Punjab on Friday. All the office bearers of the ISTE, senior faculty of the university and officials of the AICTE were present.

The journey of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (Exclusively for Women) started in 2011 with the establishment of the Godutai Engineering College for Women by Sharnbaswappa Appa, the head of Sharnabasaveshwar Samasthan. The purpose was to open new avenues of higher education for women in the backward region by providing safe environments.

The Godutai Engineering College for Women was only the second engineering college exclusively meant for women in Central and North Karnataka. It started by offering engineering courses in four branches – Computer Science, Electronic and Communication, EEE and ISE – with a total intake of 240. In 2012, the college started an MBA programme with a 60 intake, and in 2013, M.Tech programmes in Computer Science and DCN were introduced, followed by PG programmes in MBA.

Though the Godutai Engineering College for Women was merged with the Sharnbasva University after the establishment of the university, the exclusive nature of the college was retained by establishing the Faculty of Engineering and Technology exclusively for women. Several centres of excellence, including the Internet of Things (IoT) lab, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Lab, Drone Technology, Medini Technology lab and others, have been established. The faculty has an enviable record in the placement of students from the faculty in reputed software and hardware entities.
