BJP Tamil Nadu president K. Annamalai on Tuesday said that the State government’s scheme called Kalaignar Kaivinai Thittam as the cut-copy-paste version of the Centre’s Vishwakarma Scheme with their sticker pasted on it. Tamil Nadu government had strongly opposed the scheme on the basis that it promoted casteism.
In a statement on social media platform X, Mr. Annamalai said that the Tamil Nadu government was “stonewalling the implementation of the PM Vishwakarma programme” and they faced “the brunt of the people”.
“The new scheme launched by the DMK government comes with certain eligibility relaxations, which seem to only favour local DMK functionaries. By betraying 8.4 lakh genuine applicants from Tamil Nadu for the Vishwakarma scheme, the DMK government will now, through its spin-off version, give collateral-free loans to local DMK functionaries of up to 3 lakh, diffusing the purpose of the targeted beneficiary subsidies of the PM Vishwakarma scheme,” he said.
