Kittur bandh against lack of budgetary provisions for development authority on March 18

Spread the News

Some organisations have called for a Kittur bandh against the lack of budgetary provisions for Kittur Development Authority on March 18.

Madiwala Rajyogindra Swami announced this after a meeting of protestors in Kittur on Wednesday.

He said that the State budget released by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has made no provisions for the development of the proposed Kittur Development Authority.

“The same budget has made allocations in crores of rupees for other similar development authorities, but not for Kittur. We cannot tolerate such discrimination,” he said.

“On March 18, a protest rally will be held at the Rani Channamma Circle in Kittur and the main streets of the town. The budget has hurt our self-respect. We have to speak up against this. We will lead a non-partisan protest,” he said.

President of the association of traders Mallikarjuna Sanikoppa said that Kittur and Rani Channamma have been treated unfairly by the successive governments.

He also took objection to some textbooks that mentioned Jhansi Rani Laxmibai as the first woman freedom fighter of the country, even though the Kittur battles were led by Rani Channamma in 1824, two decades before the Jhansi battle.

He urged the Union and State governments to release money for the preservation of monuments in Kittur and development of the town as a tourist attraction.

Sri Panchakshari Swamiji of Nichchanaki, Sri Veereshwar Swamiji of Degulahalli, Maulana Hazrat Tasveerasab Mujawar of Kadaravalli, Kittur Nadu Vidyavardhak Sangh leader Jagadisha Vastrad, Kannada Sahitya Parishad Taluk unit president S.B. Dalwai, Kittur Karnataka Raitha Sangh general secretary Appesh Dalvai, the former President of the Town Panchayat Hanumanta Langoti, BJP Rural district unit general secretary Sandeep Deshpande, Chandragouda Patala and others were present.
