A 28-year-old man died in an elephant attack at Byadane village in Belur taluk of Hassan district on Monday. This is the second such incident in Belur taluk in the last 10 days.
The victim was identified as Anil. An agricultural worker, Anil encountered a wild elephant while returning home from a private estate, where he worked. The animal trampled him to death. The family members and relatives of Anil gathered at the spot.
The incident occurred in the limits of Arehalli Police Station. The Forest Department officers and police reached the spot and carried out the investigation.
The residents of Belur, Alur, and Sakaleshpur taluks of Hassan district have been demanding the capture of all wild elephants roaming in the district.
On February 13, a 74-year-old woman died near Bellavara in Belur in an elephant attack. Following the incident, the local people staged a protest and demanded immediate action to end the human-elephant conflict permanently.
MLA for Belur H.K. Suresh took the officers to task for failing to stop elephants from entering human habitats.
