A man who stole over ₹50 lakh from a residence in Laxmi Nagar Colony of Kompally for his marriage was nabbed on Monday, said the Cyberabad police.
The accused, identified as A. Anand, 21, an electrician from Medak, was arrested days after a complaint was lodged by Velagapudi Bhavani Shankar, a businessman from Kompally about the theft from his home.
The police recovered ₹43 lakh of the ₹52.5 lakh stolen by him.
According to the police, Anand, who was in need of money for his marriage, devised a plan to acquire money illegally. He gained entry into the complainant’s residence by cutting the grill of the bedroom window. Once inside, he accessed the almirah and made away with the cash.
Efforts are underway to trace the remaining amount.
