Minister for School Education Madhu Bangarappa has said the families who were displaced owing to the Sharavathi project will get the rights to their land soon.
The State government had been making efforts to provide them justice, he said while addressing a gathering at Hirenallur in Sagar taluk on Tuesday. He inaugurated the gram panchayat building at the village.
The people affected by the dam project were shown land in different locations in the district to settle and cultivate. However, many of them did not get the land granted to them due to forest regulations.
Mr. Bangarappa, who is also Minister in charge of the district, said that the State government had designated a senior advocate to represent the case in the Supreme Court. The court had suggested both the State and Central governments resolve the issue amicably. The Centre too had responded positively. “We are hopeful of resolving the issue soon. It is our responsibility to provide justice to the displaced families. We are enjoying electricity because of the sacrifice of hundreds of families,” he said.
Former Minister Kagodu Thimmappa, Hirenallur Gram Panchayat president Revathi Suresh, and others were present at the programme.
