The ‘Kerala Adventure Trophy-2024’ off-road championship will begin at the Thusharagiri adventure park at Kodenchery on Saturday (December 28). Tourism Minister P.A. Mohamed Riyas will officially inaugurate the event on Sunday (December 29). This is the fourth edition of what is considered the biggest off-road championship in south India.
The two-day event is being organised by Kerala Motor Sports Society with the support of the Kozhikode district administration and is led by Thiruvambady MLA Linto Joseph.
The MLA will flag off the amateur category competition on Saturday, while District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh will inaugurate the national open championship on Sunday. Mr. Singh will also distribute prizes to the winners.
Kodenchery panchayat president Alex Thomas, Kerala Adventure Tourism Promotion Society chief executive officer Binu Kuriakose, auto journalist Hani Mustafa, and actor Binu Pappu are expected to attend the valedictory function.
The championship is being organised to send out a message to the younger generation to restrict adventures to spaces dedicated to them, rather than taking them out on the roads. The idea is to stress the importance of traffic rules and safe journey.
The championship will have insurance coverage and support from the Motor Vehicles department, Fire and Safety department, Kerala Water Authority, and the police, besides medical support from Meitra Hospital.
