Nine persons who reportedly attacked a woman sub-inspector (SI) were arrested on Thursday at Gudivada village of Vizianagaram district.
According to the police, the youngsters had a heated argument with the SI B. Devi, who opposed a ‘record dance’ programme organised in the name of ‘Dance Baby Dance’ on the occasion of Venugopala Swamy Jatara at the village on Tuesday night.
The accused misbehaved with the girls dancing on the stage, following which the police intervened, and the SI told them that the police would not allow such obscene and vulgar activities in the village. However, they argued with Ms. Devi alleging that she was spoiling the happy mood in the village by objecting to the dance programme which was an annual affair. They reportedly threatened her with dire consequences and assaulted her.
The officer who suffered minor injuries had to take shelter in a home for safety.
Senior officials who were informed about the incident went to the village and shifted Ms. Devi to a hospital.
Vizianagaram SP Vakul Jindal reportedly informed the higher authorities and the Minister for Home Vangalapudi Anitha who had sought details about the incident. She directed the officials not to spare anyone to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
