Surama Padhy, Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, has appreciated the National Sanskrit University (NSU) for “taking Sanskrit to a new high” by integrating it with modern technologies even while retaining its traditional nature.
Speaking after distributing prizes to the winners at the valedictory session of the South Zone Sanskrit Students Sports Meet-2024 (Ekalavya Kreeda Manch) hosted by NSU on Tuesday, she recalled Sanskrit’s syntactical compatibility and structured nature that makes it suitable for computer coding.
“Sanskrit is gaining preference as its importance is growing in the emerging fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and coding technologies,” Ms. Padhy observed, adding that its all-around acceptance established Sanskrit as a timeless classical language driving Indian culture forward.
She presented the trophy to the host NSU team, which emerged as the champion by winning 15 gold medals and three silver medals.
Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Chairman A. Ravi Naidu recalled the government’s efforts in promoting sports, including establishing sports development centres and extending financial incentives like ₹7 crore for Olympic winners and ₹20 lakh for participants, and Group I jobs. He also offered to improve the NSU’s sports infrastructure by building synthetic tracks and a multi-sports complex.
Vice-Chancellor G.S.R. Krishnamurthy, Registrar R.J. Ramashree, Deans Rajanikant Shukla (Academic), S. Dakshinamurthy Sharma (Students welfare), Sports Committee president K.S. Satheesh and event coordinator V. Sethuram took part in the closing ceremony.
