Palaniswami assails govt. for seeking applications from retired deputy secretaries for advisor post

Spread the News

The AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Tuesday assailed the State government for its move to seek applications from retired deputy secretaries in the government for the post of advisor, to be appointed on a temporary basis, in the Special Programme Implementation department.

In a statement, he referred to reports of many retired officials getting appointed on contract basis. He also adverted to an advertisement in the press which stated that applications would have to be submitted by March 21. The advertisement came as a “huge shock” to “lakhs of young applicants”, who had been waiting for filling of “lakhs of vacancies” in the government, and “hundreds of the government employees” who had been expecting promotion.

Mr Palaniswami reminded the ruling party of its assurances at the time of 2021 Assembly poll that a total of 5.5 lakh jobs would be generated in the government sector, of which the youth would be appointed for 3.5 lakh posts in the government departments.

In a post on his social media handle, the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) founder T.T.V. Dhinakaran referred to the closure of thousands of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in the State in the last four years and to reports that Tamil Nadu stood no. 2 at the all-India level in this regard.  He also criticised the State government for not coming out with a White Paper on the impact of overseas trips made by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and the Global Investors’ Meet with regard to the attraction of foreign investment and the generation of employment opportunities. He called upon the State government to take steps for preventing closure of more units and extend concessions to the MSME units on a par with those of big enterprises.

The ADMK Workers’ Rights Retrieval Committee coordinator, O. Panneerselvam, wondered why Mr Stalin had been maintaining silence over searches carried out by the Enforcement Directorate at offices of Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) and liquor production units for two days.  Referring to searches carried out by the Income Tax department when the AIADMK was in power, Mr Panneerselvam said the operations pertained to individuals concerned whereas the latest round of searches related to unlawful commercial transactions. Mr Stalin was seeking to divert the attention of the public from this issue, by raising the matters of three language formula and delimitation.
