Palaniswami urges T.N. govt. to cancel permit for mining of heavy minerals in Kanniyakumari

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Tuesday (December 24, 2024) urged the Tamil Nadu government to cancel the permit given to IREL (India) Limited, formerly Indian Rare Earths Limited, for the mining of heavy minerals at Manavalakurichi in Kanniyakumari district.

Referring to the proposed agitation by sections of residents of the district on December 31 against the State government for not taking any action to cancel the permit, Mr. Palaniswami, in a statement, called upon the regime to accede to the demands of the people. The agitation was called to highlight the environmental damage that had arisen in the wake of the prolonged mining, he added.
