The State Water Transport Department (SWTD) has launched a new passenger boat service between Panavally Ferry and Thevara Ferry to reduce traffic congestion on the National Highway (NH) 66.
It was flagged off by Daleema Jojo, MLA in a function held at Arokkutty Boat Terminal on Saturday.
Ms. Jojo said the boat service was launched to address travel issues faced by the people of Aroor region due to the ongoing NH widening works. She said that steps would be taken to extend the service to Ernakulam Boat Jetty.
With the commencement of the boat service, daily commuters travelling to Kochi for work and other needs will be able to save a lot of time.
Thycattussery Block Panchayat president V.R. Rejitha presided. Perumbalam Grama Panchayat president V.V. Asha, Alappuzha District Panchayat member Binitha Pramod and others attended.
