The Delimitation Commission has received 16,896 complaints regarding the Phase 1 ward delimitation in grama panchayats, municipalities and corporations.
All the complaints will be examined by the District Election Officer (District Collector) or an official deputed by him/her, the State Delimitation Commission said on Thursday. The Commission will also hear the complainants at the district headquarters.
The schedule of the hearings will be published in due course. The Commission, headed by State Election Commissioner A. Shajahan, will publish the final notification on the ward delimitation after examining the complaints and conducting the hearings.
The highest number of complaints emerged from Malappuram district (2,834), and the lowest, from Idukki district (480). The Commission received 12,425 complaints regarding the ward delimitation in grama panchayats, 2,864 concerning the exercise in municipalities and 1,607 in corporations.
The Delimitation Commission had published the draft notification on the Phase 1 of the ward delimitation on November 18.
Phase 1 saw the boundaries of 17,337 wards in grama panchayats, 3241 wards in municipalities and 421 in the corporations being redrawn. The exercise, coming ahead of the 2025 local body elections in Kerala, was based on the 2011 census.
Phases 2 and 3 will cover block panchayats and district panchayats respectively.
