Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav.
Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav on Wednesday said plans are in place to ensure that Uravakonda town does not face drinking water problem for the next 30 years. The Minister performed bhumi puja for the works taken up with a cost of ₹21.54 crore under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to provide water to 27 villages in Uravakonda mandal.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Keshav said that water would be brought to Udiripikonda from Pennar Ahobhilam Balancing Reservoir (PABR) and the pipeline for the same has already been laid. From Udiripikonda, water would be supplied to Uravakonda, which will solve the water supply problem to Uravakonda. “Apart from this, we will also chalk out plans to ensure water supply to Uravakonda for the coming 30 years,” he said.
Mr. Keshav said that the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government failed to allocate sufficient funds to provide drinking water to the habitations, and their neglect has resulted in the Centre allocating funds to the State under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) scheme. He added that a project report is on the anvil to provide drinking water to every village in Uravakonda Assembly constituency.
“Temporary measures have been taken up to provide drinking water to Uravakonda town, Havaligi, Vajrakarur and other important towns which face severe shortage,” he said.
