The PMK has planned a protest in Chennai on Thursday to demand that the Tamil Nadu government conduct a caste census in the State on the lines of the Telangana government.
Sources in the PMK said a siege protest on Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s residence had been planned. The protest is likely to see the participation of TMC (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan, former Minister and AMMK leader G. Senthamizhan, Puratchi Bharatham leaders and others.
PMK spokesperson K. Balu said the State government’s position that the Centre had to conduct a caste census was untenable. “There is no point in pointing at the Centre. So, what will the State government do if the Centre refuses to conduct the caste census in this term? Will the State government not conduct it at all?” he asked.
