The Kruthivennu police have used drones to raid an Illegally Distilled (ID) liquor manufacturing unit being organised in the mangrove forests on the sea coast.

The police found cooking gas cylinders, stoves, drugs and the jaggery wash stored in the bushes in the thick mangrove forests.

“The accused arranged stoves on the manchas (beds arranged with wood) in the mangroves in Nidamarru village. They were using country boats to take the raw material to the spot and supply fermented liquor to the locals,” said Krishna district Superintendent of Police R. Gangadhar Rao, who monitored the operation.

The team led by Machilipatnam Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ch. Raja said that the accused fled on seeing the police.

Kruthivennu SI A. Pydi Babu said some villagers of Nidamarru villagers were involved in ID liquor manufacturing and selling it in the habitations on the sea coast. “We are trying to identify the accused,” Mr. Pydi Babu said.

Pedana Circle Inspector Nagendra Prasad said that a vigil had been stepped up in mangrove forests to check ID liquor manufacturing and other illegal activities.
