Seeking regularisation of long-serving daily wage workers in local bodies and the implementation of EPF deductions from the date of appointment, the Karaikal unit of the Municipal and Commune Panchayat Daily Wage Workers’ Association has urged the Puducherry government to take action.
The demand was raised at a consultative meeting held at the federation office in Karaikal, chaired by Ayyappan, president of the Karaikal Municipal and Commune Panchayat Employees’ Federation. Several key resolutions were adopted at the meeting.
The association called upon the Local Administration Department to regularise the employment of 15 daily wage workers from the Tirunallar, Nedungadu, and Neravy panchayats, who have each completed over 10 years of continuous service. The federation demanded that all eligible workers be enrolled under the Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) health scheme and that Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) contributions be made from the date of joining.
