Gagandeep Singh Bedi, Secretary, Department of Rural Development on Thursday inspected ongoing restoration work, after heavy downpour under the impact of Cyclone Fengal caused unprecedented flooding in the district.
Mr. Bedi, accompanied by Collector Sibi Adhithya Senthil Kumar, inspected works to repair roads damaged due to flooding in the Thenpennai River at Maruthadu near Cuddsalore. He also inspected the damaged paddy crop at Azhagiyanatham, and interacted with the farmers to get a first-hand account of the extent of damage in standing crops.
Roads for a distance of 83 km, belonging to the Highways Department, have been damaged due to heavy downpour in the impact of cyclone in Cuddalore district. Of this, roads to a length of 68 km have been repaired and traffic has been restored. As many as 28 uprooted trees have also been removed, he said.
Work to repair 26 minor bridges and three road bridges that were damaged due to unprecedented flooding has been taken up, Mr. Bedi added.
