Seven hours of power being supplied to farmers’ pump sets: George

Spread the News

Minister K.J. George on Monday informed the Legislative Council that the Energy Department has been supplying seven hours of electricity to farmers’ agricultural pump sets and preparations have been made to ensure that there is no power outage during summer.

Responding to Congress member Dinesh Gooligowda, the Minister said that agricultural pump sets are being supplied with three-phase electricity four hours during the day and three hours at night – a total of seven hours a day. “Some farmers say that they should be provided with electricity for seven hours at a time, while others say that the current method is fine. They say that if water is supplied for seven hours at a time, there will be problems with the pump and there will be no availability of water,” he said.

Pointing out that seven hours of uninterrupted electricity is being supplied in forest areas, Mr. George said: “The demand for electricity increases in the summer. The maximum demand has already reached 18,365 MW and we are prepared to supply 19,000 MW during the summer months,” he said.
