Health Minister Ma. Subramanian on Sunday said that sites had been identified for five new health sub-centres in Perambalur district. The sites identified by the Revenue department have been handed over to the Health department.
Work in connection with the construction of the new sub-centres will commence soon, Mr. Subramanian told reporters after inaugurating a Block Public Health Laboratory constructed at a cost of ₹50 lakh on the Government Primary Health Centre premises at Kolakanatham village in Alathur taluk in the district. The Minister said construction of similar public health laboratories was under way at 300 places throughout the State of which construction had been completed in 150 places and opened for public use.
The laboratories would conduct medical tests for diabetes, high blood pressure, and tuberculosis among others. Fifteen new medical buildings were under construction at various places in Perambalur district at a cost of ₹8.10 crore, the Minister added.
