Minister for Medical Education, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil called upon corporates to adopt and develop government-run Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and take the lead in offering employment-oriented skill training.
Signing the MoUs with various industries for providing employability skills in Bengaluru on Wednesday, the Minister said the government had already initiated various programmes to empower the youth by providing them with skill training. Industrial houses should also focus on training and employment opportunities, he said.
He said the government is committed to modernising government ITIs and a proposal is prepared for funding from Asia Development Bank. “We are replacing outdated equipment in ITIs with modern machinery, which will benefit the students. Training programs are being organized in districts like Bengaluru and Kalaburagi.”
Under the Prime Minister’s Suryamitra-Mukt Bijli Yojana, more than 5,000 candidates from 252 government ITIs in the state have undergone short-term training in solar panel installation and maintenance. This initiative will open up better employment opportunities for them, he said.
