SSLC results: Will Yadgir climb up the rank ladder in State’s list this year?

In a bid to improve the SSLC results in Yadgir and to ensure it improve its position in the district-wise ranking in this year, the State Education Department has put in hectic efforts, officials said.

The SSLC examinations which commenced on March 21 concluded on April 4.

In the last academic year (2023-24), the district dipped to 35th rank in the list, with a 54.53 pass percentage.

By implementing certain methods, including conducting special classes, evening classes, and group studies for students who have been identified as backward in studies, access for students in libraries under Gram Panchayats, and preparatory examinations, the department is hoping the district will make its way up in this year’s State ranking list.

“Despite all odds, including a shortage of teaching staff for major subjects such as English, Science, and Mathematics, we have managed to cover the syllabus with the help of Graduate Primary Teachers (GPT), deploying them to nearby high schools. I hope this has helped students who faced examinations successfully to improve the results,” C.S. Mudhol, Deputy Director of Public Instructions, told The Hindu.

Lack of teaching staff

The lack of teaching staff is attributed as the major reason for the backwardness in the studies and also hits the results every year.

Out of 1,548 sanctioned teacher posts in the district, only 820 posts were filled, and the remaining 728 posts, with 47%, are vacant.

Taluk-wise vacancies

In Shahapur, 219 posts (46%) remained vacant against 479 sanctioned posts. In Shorapur, 290 posts (51%) are vacant against 564 sanctioned posts, and in Yadgir, 219 posts (43%) remained vacant against 505 sanctioned posts.

“The government should take immediate measures to fill vacant posts. The district has remained backward in the education department. Thus, elected representatives should pressure the government to make it happen,” Bheemu Naik, District President of Pro Kannada Organisation, has said.
