In a landmark decision, the Andhra Pradesh government has announced that all official government orders (GOs) will now be issued in Telugu, alongside English. Minister for Revenue, Registration, and Stamps Anagani Satya Prasad, in a statement here on Saturday (Jannuarry 04), expressed delight over the coalition government’s move, emphasizing its commitment to promote the Telugu language.
For years, Telugu writers, poets, and language enthusiasts have demanded the inclusion of Telugu in government communications. With 90% of the State’s population speaking Telugu, this initiative is expected to enhance administrative transparency and accessibility. Minister Satya Prasad highlighted that this step honours the legacy of the late N.T. Rama Rao, who championed for Telugu language development, and praised Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for continuing efforts to uphold the language’s prominence.
Minister for Agriculture Atchannaidu lauded the decision, stating it restores respect for the mother tongue that was neglected by the previous government. He credited CM Chandrababu Naidu with prioritizing transparency and ensuring rural communities can better understand governance through Telugu-language orders.
Minister for Transport Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy termed the move a significant step toward honouring Telugu as the official language in the first linguistically formed State in Independent India. He added that this decision is a milestone for preserving Telugu culture and identity.
The ministers collectively encouraged citizens to cherish their mother tongue while embracing proficiency in English.
