The police arrested three bike-borne youth on Monday for chasing a car on the Villupuram-Ulundurpet national highway while riding triples on a motorcycle. A video of the incident, recorded by an occupant of the car, has since gone viral.

According to the police, the incident took place on Sunday evening when Sanjeevi, 38, a resident of Mangadu, was travelling in the car with his wife and children from Chennai towards Dindigul. The accused identified as S. Rajesh, 24, K. Raja, 25, and J. Vinodh, 22, of Villupuram chased the car, even trying to open its door.

The trio, in an attempt to obstruct the car, chased it for over 5 km on the highway, intimidating the occupants and damaging the rear windscreen. As Mr. Sanjeevi slowed down his vehicle at Gedilam village near Tirunavalur, to seek help, the accused sped away on their motorcycle.

He lodged a complaint with a police patrol team that tracked down the accused and arrested them, besides seizing their motorcycle. The youth were under the influence of alcohol, the police said.
