The Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (II) at Proddatur confirmed a lower court’s sentence imposed on aredsanders smuggler to undergo three-year rigorous imprisonment and pay a fine of ₹10,000.
The convict, Chakka Ravi of Bogalakatta in Mylavaram mandal of Kadapa district, was apprehended from Ramachandrayyapalli along with three others by Forest officials from Proddatur and Muddanur ranges in 2007. He was 23 years old then.
Ravi was found guilty of smuggling by the I Class judicial magistrate of Jammalamadugu, who sentenced him to undergo the above punishment, in March 2015.
Hearing an appeal on Friday (April 11), Judge A. Narasimha Murthy confirmed the sentence.
Public prosecutor M. Balakrishnama Naidu and Deputy Forest Range Officer J. Chandrasekhar Raju, who is also the State liaison officer of redsanders court, were among those present.
