Ugrappa alleges BJP supporters sparked ‘janivara’ row to deepen societal divide

Former MP and Congress leader V.S. Ugrappa on Saturday alleged that the ‘Janivara’ row has been triggered by the supporters of BJP to further widen the divide in the society.

Addressing a press conference in Mysuru on Saturday, Mr. Ugrappa, who is also the vice-president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, said the controversy has erupted in Shivamogga, which is coincidentally the native place of former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and his son B.Y. Vijayendra.

Coincidentally, a similar row was reported from Bidar on the very day BJP leaders, including the party’s State president B.Y. Vijayendra, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashok, and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, visited the district.

Mr. Ugrappa claimed that the incident has been attributed to home guards in Shivamogga, and he has spoken to the officials concerned, including the Superintendent of police in the district as well as the Minister in charge of the district. The Congress leader said he has spoken to the officials even in Bidar district with regard to the incident.

Claiming that he suspected the supporters of BJP to have triggered the ‘Janivara’ row to fuel the ongoing debate on caste census and further widen the divide in the society, Mr. Ugrappa said a probe in the matter should be conducted to bring out the truth.
