Universal Biofuels at Kakinada shut down over animal fat contamination

Spread the News

Kakinada Collector Sagili Shan Mohan issued orders on Monday, January 20, to close Universal Biofuels Private Limited, which produces edible refined palm oil, citing the presence of animal fat in the raw materials used.

The Collector said that the orders were issued based on the directives of the Task Force of the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), which inspected the factory located at Vakalapudi village on the Kakinada coast, on December 20, 2024, upon receiving complaints from the locals that odour was emanating from the factory.

“The expert committee has concluded that Universal Biofuels used animal fat and other prohibited raw materials, which caused the odour. The company was officially closed down on January 19,” said Mr. Shan Mohan.
