Unused land under government departments and vacant flats originally built for the tsunami rehabilitation programme will be offered to the landless among the extremely poor families in the State.
The decision was taken by the Cabinet on Wednesday. The Cabinet decided to allow District Collectors to identify land for the landless among the extremely poor in this manner. The Collectors will be permitted to acquire up to two acres in panchayats, one acre in municipalities and 50 cents in Corporations without no-objection certificates from the departments concerned.
They will also be empowered to hand over all flats and properties under the tsunami rehabilitation programme that are lying vacant to the landless families among the extremely poor. The District Collectors have been asked to hold discussions with the government departments to identify the land.
The Cabinet on Wednesday gave its approval for the draft liquor policy for the 2025-26 fiscal, the Chief Minister’s office said in a statement.
