The upcoming special Cabinet meeting at M.M. Hills on April 24 must comply with the model code of conduct (MCC), which will be in force for the gram panchayat byelection in the region.
The historic Cabinet meeting at M.M. Hills, which had been postponed twice earlier, coincided with the MCC coming into effect from April 22 to May 14 in connection with the May 11 bypoll to the single-member gram panchayat at M.M. Hills in Hanur taluk of Chamarajanagar district.
Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Nag wrote to the State Election Commission (SEC) seeking clarification in this regard. The SEC made it clear that the Cabinet meeting can be held without violating the MCC, and the Deputy Commissioner held discussions with the State Chief Secretary too, in this regard.
“The Cabinet meeting is not a public programme. It does not violate the model code of conduct,” sources in the district administration told The Hindu before adding that the Cabinet meeting will be held on April 24 atop M.M. Hills as scheduled. However, announcements pertaining to the region, where the byelection are scheduled, will not be made as per the MCC.
The special Cabinet meeting, which will be chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at the Deepadagiri Vaddu in M.M. Hills, is expected to discuss several projects pertaining to the Mysuru revenue division, particularly Mysuru and the border district of Chamarajanagar.
