Vande Bharat Express bound for Thiruvananthapuram from Kasaragod on Wednesday developed a technical snag due to which it stopped near the Shoranur bridge around 5:45 p.m. soon after leaving Shoranur station.

According to passengers, the train journey was disrupted for about three hours following the technical glitch, although the authorities towed the train back to Shornaur railway station around an hour after the incident. Later, railway authorities made arrangements to take the passengers to their destination station by around 8.45 p.m.

A statement issued by Railways said the train stopped soon after passing Shoranur Junction at 5.50 p.m. Despite efforts of the onboard crew and technical staff, the issue could not be resolved onsite. To avoid disruption to rail traffic and enable detailed troubleshooting, the train was pulled back to Shoranur Junction at 7.35 p.m. using an additional locomotive.

Later, a new relief locomotive was attached at Shoranur Junction, and after thorough safety checks, the train resumed journey at 8.45 p.m. To facilitate passengers during the emergency, an additional stoppage was also provided at Angamali station. The cause of the technical glitch will be analysed during the scheduled maintenance at Thiruvananthapuram, said a release.
