Marykutty, wife of Sabu Thomas, a vendor in Kattappana town who was found hanging outside the Kattappana Rural Development Cooperative Society bank on December 20, 2024, alleged that the Kattappana police had sabotaged the probe into the case, and she would approach the court.
Talking to the media, Ms. Marykutty said the bank officials were responsible for her husband’s death. “The bank authorities suspended the officials responsible for the incident. But within months, they were reinstated. It shows that the accused are being protected,” she said.
Three accused
Meanwhile, the Kattappana police have submitted a chargesheet before the Kattappana Judicial First Class Magistrate Court in the case. According to officials, the accused in the chargesheet are employees of the bank — secretary Reji Abraham, senior clerk Sujamol Jose, and junior clerk Benoy Thomas.
The police had slapped abetment to suicide charges on three employees of in connection with the death of Sabu. A suicide note by the vendor had blamed the three officials. The note said the bank officials insulted him and tried to attack him when he visited the bank branch on the day.
The audio of a conversation between Sabu and the former president of the bank, V.R. Saji, revealed that the latter had threatened the vendor. Ms. Marykutty alleged that the police failed to register a case against Mr. Saji.
