A 25-year-old woman, who was appearing in the SSLC public exam in place of her mother, was apprehended by the authorities at the examination centre at Natarajan Dhamayanthi Higher Secondary School in Velipalayam in Nagapattinam district on Wednesday.
The proxy candidate, V. Selvambigai, was appearing for her mother K. Suganthi, 46, a private candidate for the English exam on April 2. She was caught by the flying squad at the exam hall.
“She was wearing a mask, claiming to be unwell. The officials on suspicion checked the hall ticket, which had her photo. However, in the official records, they found a different photograph.” M.K.C. Subhashini, Chief Education Officer, told The Hindu.
The authorities reported the matter to the police. .
According to police sources, a case has been registered against the daughter and mother under Sections 94, 318 (4), 319 (2) and 340 (2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Velipalayam police station.
Selvambigai, who was five months pregnant, was let off on station bail. However, the police are in search of Suganthi.
