Spread the News

A woman was killed and seven others sustained injuries after a speeding Nellore-bound private bus rammed a tractor trolley near Chintapally bypass in Miryalaguda town in the wee hours of Sunday.

The victim was identified as Nunavath Sunitha, 40. Her husband Nunavath Saida, 43, who was driving the tractor, sustained head injuries and is in coma.

Among the others injured in the accident are bus driver Kurakula Reddy Shekhar, passengers G. Sivaramakrishna, T. Nagacharith, Swarna Shailaja, C. Radha and Lakshmi. They were shifted to a private hospital.

The accident was reported around 3.40 a.m. when Sunitha and Saida were travelling from Miryalaguda to Suryapet on their tractor. “The private bus, operated by Vega Travels, running from Shamshabad to Nellore, crashed into the tractor from the rear. Due to the impact of the collision, Sunitha fell down and the tractor fell on her, leading to severe head injuries and instant death,” Miryalaguda DSP Rajasekhara Raju said.

“We suspect that the driver slept on the wheel and was driving at high speed which led to the crash. However, an investigation is taken up. The driver will be questioned to know the exact circumstances that led to this collision,” police added.

A case was booked against the bus driver and further investigation is underway.
