A man earlier arrested for attacking police officers in the line of duty, has been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life by the LB Nagar Court on Tuesday.

The accused, 19-year-old Sardar Chamkorthi alias Karan Singh, is a resident of Rajendranagar. The court also slapped a fine of ₹15,000 on him.

The case dates to January 5, 2023, when police constables Raju Naik and Vijay were in pursuit of Karan Singh, who was wanted in connection with a murder case in Narsingi police station.

Acting on a tip-off, the officials tracked him to Sikh Colony in Yellammabanda between 1.30 p.m. and 2 p.m.

As they attempted to apprehend him, Singh launched a violent attack, brandishing a knife and inflicting serious injuries on both the constables. The assault left the officers bleeding profusely and they were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Following Singh’s arrest later that night at 11.45 p.m., a case was registered at Jagadgirigutta police station under the charges of attempt to murder and voluntarily causing grievous hurt to deter a public servant from discharging duty along with relevant sections of the Arms Act, 1959. Once the investigation was completed, a charge sheet was filed.

During the trial, the court examined multiple witnesses and after evaluation of the evidence ,which included medical reports and forensic analysis, found the accused guilty.
