A 30-year-old man was killed after being struck by lightning while on a paddy field at Edathua in Kuttanad on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Akhil Sreenivasan of Edathua. Sources said that a group of youngsters had entered the field to play cricket when the lightning struck around 4 p.m. They said the youth was speaking on a mobile phone, which reportedly exploded after the strike. Though Akhil was rushed to a nearby hospital, his life could not be saved. Two others also sustained burns in the incident.
