The Punjab unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday (December 20, 2024) accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of insulting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the Dalit community, demanding his removal from the post.

A delegation led by AAP State president Aman Arora met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria here to submit a memorandum demanding the immediate removal of Mr. Shah from cabinet.

Mr. Arora said Mr. Shah’s remarks about Dr. Ambedkar have caused widespread hurt and outrage among Indians, including the people of Punjab, and reflect poorly on the current government’s respect for constitutional values. “We have demanded that Amit Shah be immediately removed from the Union Cabinet,” he told mediapersons.

Separately, senior AAP leader and Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema alleged that Mr. Shah not only insulted Dr. Ambedkar but also the Dalit community. “The Home Minister tried to demean the Dalit community of India. He must immediately apologise to the people of the country,” he said.
