The Ernakulam Rural police have recorded the arrest of a woman, reportedly from Bangladesh, and a man who were earlier detained in Perumbavoor.
The arrested are Taslima Beegum, 28, of Khulna Sadar in Bangladesh and Shakthi Kumar, 32, of Nawada in Bihar. The Perumbavoor police arrested them from Kandanthara colony on a tip-off received by District Police Chief (Ernakulam Rural) Vaibhav Saxena.
Reportedly, they had reached Perumbavoor on Wednesday after staying in various lodges in Kochi. A team led by Perumbavoor inspector T.M. Soofy detained them. According to the police, the woman had crossed over the border with the help of an agent. She reportedly told the police that she had been to various places before reaching Bengaluru where she met the man.
Together they travelled to various places before coming to Kerala. The police are trying to track down the places visited by the duo. Fake Aadhaar and PAN cards allegedly secured by an agent were seized from the woman. Reportedly, they had been in Kerala for the past five months.
Besides, the two had been questioned by other enforcement agencies like the National Investigation Agency, Intelligence Bureau, and the Anti-Terrorism Squad. The police are investigating the reason for their travel to Perumbavoor and the people who extended help to them.
A team comprising sub inspectors P.M. Rasik, Rinse M. Thomas, and Lal Mohan made the arrest.
