Accusing the BJP-led government of “political vendetta” against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, and unleashing the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to silence people questioning the government, the Telangana Congress held a dharna at the regional office of the ED here on Thursday.
AICC in-charge for Telangana, Meenakshi Natrajan, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, D Sridhar Babu, Jupally Krishna Rao, Damodar Rajnarsimha, Tummala Nageswara Rao, Konda Surekha and former MP V. Hanumantha Rao were among those present.
Ms Natarajan wondered how can there be money-laundering charges when there were no money transactions. National Herald is run by a non-profit organisation, she said.
Mr. Mahesh Kumar Goud alleged that the BJP looked worried after the Congress party’s session in Gujarat where the party reiterated its commitment on caste census and implementing the same successfully in Telangana.
Mr. Vikramarka and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the Gandhi family is being “targeted” deliberately by the Modi government, and such political vendetta is not good for the country. They said the entire nation is with the Gandhi family and exuded confidence that the judiciary would give a clean chit.
Mr. Sridhar Babu questioned the motive behind reviving a 12-year-old case, suggesting that it was a deliberate move to silence Rahul Gandhi for raising voice against pressing national issues such as rising inflation, the falling value of the rupee in global markets, and increasing unemployment.
